GeoIT Symposium March 2026
📅 16 March 2026📍Berlin
The latest GeoIT Symposium, hosted at SRH University of Applied Sciences by the GeoIT Vice-President, Łukasz Rojek, brought together researchers, innovators, and students in Berlin for an engaging evening of ideas and discussion on the future of geospatial technologies.
Opened by GeoIT President Michel Deriaz, the event once again demonstrated how rapidly the GeoIT ecosystem is evolving—from robotics and indoor mapping to AI-powered geospatial intelligence.
A key highlight was the presentation of the upcoming proposal for a GeoIT COST Action initiative, introducing new opportunities to strengthen collaboration across the European geospatial community.
Jilles van Gurp presented the Formation and the Open RTLS initiative, emphasising the need for open standards and interoperable infrastructures to enable reliable indoor tracking and mapping ecosystems.
The session also showcased innovative student and research work, including Moritz Gerlowski’s master’s project on automated 3D monitoring of plants using robotics and thermal imaging and Madhuram Mantri’s master’s project, A Simulated Demonstration of a Multi-Robot Swarm Using ORB-SLAM in ROS2 with Centralised Map Merging to Reduce Drift.
As always, the evening concluded with lively networking—continuing the GeoIT tradition of collaborative community spirit.
Nine months after the relaunch of GeoIT: a very positive outlook
📅 1 October 2025 📍Berlin
This year, we made it happen: the GeoIT association is back on track. After nine months of activity, one thing is clear. Interest in geoinformatics, GPS, artificial intelligence and robotics remains strong, and the GeoIT community is as dynamic as ever.
Two major events marked this relaunch. Both were a great success and clearly showed the genuine enthusiasm around these topics. Participation was excellent, discussions were lively, and members motivation remained intact.
Although the year is not over yet, this first assessment already gives us great satisfaction. The goals set for the relaunch have been achieved, and the collective energy we have seen so far encourages us to keep going. We are now more confident than ever and already looking forward to next year activities.
After nine months of renewed activity, GeoIT shows that the passion and curiosity for our fields are very much alive. A big thank you to everyone who has contributed and continues to make this community thrive.
GeoIT Symposium September 2025
📅 29 September 2025 📍Berlin
The GeoIT Symposium 2025 delivered an inspiring afternoon of insight, innovation and exchange, bringing together passionate voices from across the GeoIT ecosystem. From the opening by GeoIT.org President Prof. Dr. Michel Deriaz, the programme set an energetic tone and moved through a strong line-up of talks spanning innovation, digital transformation, telemedicine, geocoding and student-led robotics.
Highlights included Mara Diaconu’s contribution on bridging research, technology and society, Cristian Vizitiu’s presentation on space applications for human health and security, Ed Freyfogle’s engaging talk on geocoding, and the SRH student presentation of MEDIBOT, showcasing the next generation of applied GeoIT thinking. The open-ended networking breaks created exactly what the symposium set out to offer: not only knowledge sharing, but also new conversations, fresh connections and momentum for future collaboration.
