Space Applications for Human Health and Security: Overview on Specific Telemedicine and Search & Rescue Solutions

This presentation explores the integration of space technologies, as SatNav, SatCom, geospatial intelligence, into innovative solutions that enhance human health, safety, and security in challenging environments. Drawing on my experience from two major ESA-supported projects, the talk highlights an user-centric systems engineering approach firstly on critical health interventions via portable telemedicine solutions, as a field-deployable platform enabling real-time telemedicine services in remote and extreme environments, and, secondly, on a cutting-edge Search and Rescue (SAR) solution for emergency response operations combining drones, AI-powered detection, and space assets to accelerate rescue missions in areas where terrestrial networks are unavailable.
